Jonathan meets Eminent Persons Group on Agriculture in Geneva

President Goodluck Jonathan, today expected to host a meeting of Nigeria’s Eminent Persons Group (EPG) on Agriculture in Geneva, where key policy statement on agriculture transformation for the country is expected to be taken.

The president’s spokesman Dr. Reuben Abati, who revealed this in a tweet, added that the EPG will advise the president on actions and provide a global platform that would encourage investment into the agricultural sector. 

He also revealed that key global leaders including chairman of Microsoft, Bill Gates, former United Nations secretary-general, Kofi Annan, president of the African Development Bank D. Kaberuka, Mr. K. Nwanze, M Abu-Ghazaleh among others, backed Jonathan’s Agricultural Transformation Agenda.

Abati quoted the President Jonathan as saying: “I am confident dat with the support of private sector and donor community, Nigeria’s agriculture will further drive economic growth."

He said: “President Jonathan, today hosted the first meeting of Nigeria’s new Eminent Persons Group (EPG) on Agriculture in Geneva.

“Global Leaders Back Nigeria’s Agricultural Transformation Agenda: Bill Gates, Kofi Annan, D. Kaberuka, K. Nwanze, M. Abu-Ghazaleh etc.

“The EPG will advise on actions & provide a global platform for encouraging investment in Nigeria’s growing agricultural sector.

“Transforming the agricultural sector is key to Nigeria’s strategy for growth & is driven under the new Agricultural Transformation Agenda.
