Man arraigned for raping friend’s 14-year-old daughter


The Police in Ogun, on Tuesday arraigned a 37-year-old man, Wasiu Mustapha, before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court over the alleged rape of his friend’s 14-year-old daughter.
According to the police prosecutor, Augustine Ozimini, the offence was committed on January 18 at about 2 p.m. in the residence of the victim’s parents in Abeokuta.
He said that the accused had visited the victim’s father and “pounced” on the girl when her parents left them in the house.
“Mustapha came to visit the girl’s father but the girl’s parent left him and the girl in the house watching a movie.
“He pounced on the girl, tore her pant and raped her brutally,” the prosecutor told the court.
Mr. Ozimini argued that the offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Code Law of Ogun State, 2006.
The plea of the accused was not taken but his lawyer, Bamidele Yusuf, urged the court to release him on bail.
The defence counsel assured that the accused would not jump bail.
The Magistrate, Idowu Olayinka, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He said that the sureties must be workers on grade level 14 and regular tax payers with landed property in the state.
