LASTEST ON ADO BAYERO ATTACK: Kano govt ban okada riders

Okada riders on duty

In a move that is perceived to be as a result of the assassination attempt on the emir of Kano Alhaji Ado Bayero and his two sons, the Kano State government has slammed a ban on use of motorcycles popularly called Okada or Achaba within the commercial city of Kano.

This means of transportation which is commonly patronised by the low income earners has suffered another major setback as Kano is reportedly known to the highest number of commercial motorcycles in the country with conservative estimates putting the number of riders in the state at about one million.

The ban follows similar adoptions by state governments which they say curbs incidents of crime.

Many crimes, particularly attacks on security operatives in the Northern Nigerian State, were carried out by men on motorcycles.

It would be recalled that Lagos State government took similar decision last year which generated lots of criticism from the Lagos populace.
